Free PDF tools: merge, compress, convert, protect
This page brings together twelve tools for working with PDF files, from the simplest (merging two documents) to the most technical (converting a multi-page contract to Word while keeping its layout). No signup is required, and most operations — merging, splitting, reordering, rotating, numbering, adding a watermark or signature, converting images to PDF — run entirely in your browser: the file never leaves your device, and the result is available instantly, even offline once the page has loaded.
Four heavier operations — converting a PDF to JPG, compressing it, converting it to Word, or removing a password — need server-side processing instead, because they rely on libraries a browser can't run (Ghostscript for compression, a layout-recognition engine for Word conversion). In these cases, the uploaded file is processed then automatically deleted from our servers 30 minutes after processing — never logged, never reused, never looked at.
Each tool has its own page, with its own explanations and its own limits (size, page count), since the questions you ask while compressing a PDF aren't the ones you ask while converting it to Word. If your PDF is a scanned document with no selectable text at all, conversion to Word won't work correctly: use our text recognition (OCR) tool instead, built specifically for that case.
